Context of Genesis 31:22

To understand Genesis 31:22 properly, it is helpful to look at the events immediately before it. Jacob had spent many years working for his uncle Laban. Laban’s Reaction

When Laban heard that Jacob had fled, he immediately pursued him. Genesis 31:23 says that Laban and his relatives traveled seven days and finally caught up with Jacob in the hill country of Gilead.
