Genesis 6:13–16 marks one of the most significant moments in biblical history. These verses record God’s announcement to Noah that widespread human wickedness and violence had reached such an extent that divine judgment would come upon the earth through a great flood. At the same time, God provided Noah with detailed instructions for building the ark, which would preserve human and animal life during the coming catastrophe.

Verse 13 Explained

Violence in this context includes not only physical harm but also oppression, injustice, and the widespread rejection of God’s moral standards. God’s judgment was not sudden or unfair. It came after humanity continually rejected what was right.

Verse 14 Explained

Instead of leaving Noah without hope, God instructed him to build an ark made of gopher wood. Although the exact species of gopher wood is uncertain today, it was evidently a durable timber suitable for constructing a massive vessel.

God instructed Noah to build many rooms inside the ark. These rooms would house Noah’s family, food supplies, and the various animals that would enter the ark.
