English Explanation of Titus 3:12
Titus 3:12 is a short but meaningful verse from Paul’s letter to Titus. Although the verse concerns practical travel arrangements, it also gives us an important picture of Christian ministry, responsibility, cooperation, and obedience. Paul was giving Titus instructions about what he should do when Artemas or Tychicus arrived.
The verse says, “When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis.” Paul was preparing Titus for a change in his responsibilities. Titus had been serving in Crete, where Paul had left him to help establish order in the churches and appoint qualified leaders. When another Christian worker was sent to Titus, Titus was expected to leave his current assignment and meet Paul.
The names Artemas and Tychicus refer to fellow workers associated with Paul’s ministry. Artemas is mentioned only here in the New Testament, so Scripture does not give us much additional information about him. Tychicus, however, appears several times in the New Testament. He was a trusted Christian coworker who was involved in Paul’s ministry and was capable of carrying messages and assisting churches.
Paul’s instruction, “be diligent to come,” emphasizes promptness and willingness. Titus was not supposed to delay unnecessarily once the appropriate person arrived. Christian service requires not only good intentions but also faithfulness, discipline, and readiness to respond when a responsibility is given.
The second part of the verse says, “for I have determined there to winter.” Paul had decided to spend the winter at Nicopolis. Nicopolis was a city whose name means approximately “city of victory.” Several ancient cities had this name, and the precise Nicopolis intended by Paul has been discussed by biblical scholars. The important point in the passage is that Paul had made a definite plan to spend the winter there and wanted Titus to join him.
The Importance of Christian Cooperation
One major lesson from this verse is the importance of cooperation in Christian ministry. Paul did not expect one person to accomplish everything. He worked with different believers and entrusted different responsibilities to them.
Titus had his assignment. Artemas or Tychicus would have another assignment. Paul himself was planning his next stage of ministry. Their work was connected even though they were in different places.
This teaches an important principle: serving God is not simply an individual activity. Christians can have different gifts, responsibilities, locations, and assignments while working toward the same purpose.
The Lesson of Readiness
The phrase “be diligent to come” is particularly significant. Titus needed to remain ready for a change in his circumstances.
Readiness is an important quality in Christian life. Sometimes a person may become comfortable with a particular responsibility or location, but God’s work can involve new assignments. Titus needed to be prepared to move when the proper time came.
This does not mean acting carelessly or making impulsive decisions. Rather, it means being willing to respond faithfully when a legitimate responsibility is placed before us.
The Lesson of Planning
Paul also demonstrates the value of planning. He had “determined” to winter at Nicopolis. His ministry was not presented as completely unorganized or without practical preparation.
Faith and planning are not opposites. A person can trust God while also making responsible plans. Paul considered where he would spend the winter and communicated that plan to Titus.
This is useful for Christians today. Prayer, trust in God, wise planning, and responsible action can work together. We should not confuse faith with refusing to make reasonable preparations.
A Lesson About Christian Workers
Titus 3:12 also reminds us that Christian workers need communication and support. Paul communicated his plans to Titus and identified people who might take Titus’s place.
Good ministry requires people who can be trusted with responsibility. Paul had confidence in workers such as Tychicus and Artemas. Titus likewise had a role that could eventually be transferred to another worker.
This demonstrates that healthy ministry includes training, cooperation, delegation, and continuity. The work should not depend entirely upon one individual.
Historical and Biblical Context
The letter to Titus is traditionally understood as one of Paul’s pastoral letters. Paul addressed Titus as a trusted coworker who was serving among believers in Crete.

تطس 3:12 سے آج کے قاری کے لیے کئی عملی سبق حاصل ہوتے ہیں:
اول، ذمہ دار بنیں۔
جو کام آپ کے سپرد کیا جائے اسے سنجیدگی سے پورا کریں۔
دوم، خدمت کے لیے تیار رہیں۔
حالات تبدیل ہو سکتے ہیں، اس لیے نئی ذمہ داری قبول کرنے کے لیے تیار رہیں۔
سوم، دوسروں کے ساتھ مل کر کام کریں۔
خدمت میں باہمی تعاون اور اعتماد بہت اہم ہیں۔
