Genesis 18:22
Verse: And the men turned their faces from thence and went toward Sodom but Abraham stood yet before the LORD English Explanation: While the two angelic messengers departed toward Sodom to execute judgment, Abraham remained in the presence of the Lord. This signifies a moment of intimate prayer and intercession where a human dares to stand in the gap for others. Urdu Explanation: جب وہ آدمی وہاں سے مڑ کر سدوم کی طرف چلے گئے تو ابراہیم ابھی تک خداوند کے سامنے کھڑا رہا۔ یہ اس بات کی علامت ہے کہ ابراہیم انسانیت کی خاطر خدا کے سامنے التجا کرنے کے لیے رک گیا۔
Genesis 18:23
Verse: And Abraham drew near and said Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked English Explanation: Abraham approaches God with a bold question regarding His justice. He asks if God would sweep away the innocent along with the guilty, highlighting the tension between divine wrath and divine justice. Urdu Explanation: ابراہیم نے قریب آ کر کہا “کیا تو راستباز کو بھی بدکار کے ساتھ ہلاک کر دے گا؟” ابراہیم خدا کے انصاف کے بارے میں سوال کر رہا تھا کہ کیا نیک اور بد کا انجام ایک ہی ہوگا۔
Genesis 18:24
Verse: Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein English Explanation: Abraham begins his famous “negotiation” for mercy. He suggests that if even fifty righteous people are found, the entire city should be spared for their sake. Urdu Explanation: “شاید اس شہر میں پچاس راستباز ہوں تو کیا تو اسے ہلاک کر ڈالے گا اور ان پچاس راستبازوں کی خاطر اس جگہ کو نہ چھوڑے گا؟” ابراہیم نے رحم کی اپیل پچاس نیک لوگوں سے شروع کی۔
Genesis 18:25
Verse: That be far from thee to do after this manner to slay the righteous with the wicked and that the righteous should be as the wicked that be far from thee Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right English Explanation: This is a pivotal theological statement. Abraham appeals to God’s character as the ultimate Judge, asserting that the Judge of all the earth must act righteously. Urdu Explanation: ابراہیم نے کہا کہ یہ تجھ سے بعید ہے کہ تو راستباز کو بدکار کے ساتھ مار ڈالے اور راستباز کا حال بدکار جیسا ہو۔ کیا تمام زمین کا انصاف کرنے والا انصاف نہ کرے گا؟
Genesis 18:26
Verse: And the LORD said If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city then I will spare all the place for their sakes English Explanation: God agrees to Abraham’s terms. This shows God’s willingness to extend mercy to a large group of sinners for the sake of a small righteous remnant. Urdu Explanation: خداوند نے جواب دیا کہ “اگر مجھے سدوم میں پچاس راستباز ملیں تو میں ان کی خاطر پوری جگہ کو معاف کر دوں گا۔”
Genesis 18:27
Verse: And Abraham answered and said Behold now I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord which am but dust and ashes English Explanation: Acknowledging his mortality and humility, Abraham continues his plea. “Dust and ashes” reflects his deep reverence before the Creator. Urdu Explanation: ابراہیم نے جواب دیا کہ “دیکھ میں نے خداوند سے بات کرنے کی جرات کی ہے حالانکہ میں محض خاک اور راکھ ہوں۔” یہ ابراہیم کی عاجزی کا اظہار ہے۔
Genesis 18:28
Verse: Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five And he said If I find there forty and five I will not destroy it English Explanation: Abraham incrementally lowers the number, testing the depths of God’s patience and mercy. God responds favorably even to forty-five. Urdu Explanation: ابراہیم نے کہا کہ اگر ان پچاس میں پانچ کم ہوں تو کیا تو ان پانچ کی کمی کی وجہ سے پورے شہر کو تباہ کر دے گا؟ خدا نے کہا “اگر مجھے وہاں پینتالیس ملے تو میں اسے تباہ نہیں کروں گا۔”
Genesis 18:29
Verse: And he spake unto him yet again and said Peradventure there shall be forty found there And he said I will not do it for forty’s sake English Explanation: The count drops to forty. Each step reinforces the idea that God values the presence of the righteous. Urdu Explanation: ابراہیم نے پھر عرض کیا کہ “شاید وہاں چالیس ہی ملیں۔” خدا نے فرمایا “میں چالیس کی خاطر بھی ایسا نہیں کروں گا۔”
Genesis 18:30
Verse: And he said unto him Oh let not the Lord be angry and I will speak Peradventure there shall thirty be found there And he said I will not do it if I find thirty there English Explanation: Fearful of offending God but driven by compassion, Abraham lowers the number to thirty. God remains consistent in His mercy. Urdu Explanation: ابراہیم نے کہا “اے خداوند غصہ نہ کر میں عرض کرتا ہوں شاید وہاں تیس ہی ملیں۔” خدا نے فرمایا “اگر مجھے وہاں تیس ملے تو میں ایسا نہیں کروں گا۔”
Genesis 18:31
Verse: And he said Behold now I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord Peradventure there shall be twenty found there And he said I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake English Explanation: The intercession continues down to twenty. This demonstrates the persistent nature of intercessory prayer. Urdu Explanation: ابراہیم نے پھر ہمت کی اور کہا کہ “شاید وہاں بیس ہی مل جائیں۔” خدا نے فرمایا “میں بیس کی خاطر بھی اسے تباہ نہیں کروں گا۔”
Genesis 18:32
Verse: And he said Oh let not the Lord be angry and I will speak yet but this once Peradventure ten shall be found there And he said I will not destroy it for ten’s sake English Explanation: In his final plea, Abraham reaches the number ten. This highlights that even a tiny fraction of righteousness can stay the hand of judgment. Urdu Explanation: ابراہیم نے آخری بار کہا “اے خداوند ناراض نہ ہو میں صرف ایک بار اور کہوں گا شاید وہاں دس ہی مل جائیں۔” خدا نے فرمایا “میں دس کی خاطر بھی اسے تباہ نہیں کروں گا۔”
Genesis 18:33
Verse: And the LORD went his way as soon as he had left communing with Abraham and Abraham returned unto his place English Explanation: After the dialogue concludes, the Lord departs. Abraham has done all he can, and now the reality of Sodom’s spiritual state will be tested. Urdu Explanation: جب خداوند ابراہیم سے کلام کر چکا تو وہ چلا گیا اور ابراہیم اپنے مقام پر واپس آ گیا۔
Genesis 19:1
Verse: And there came two angels to Sodom at even and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground English Explanation: The scene shifts to Sodom. Lot, Abraham’s nephew, displays hospitality—a virtue in contrast to the city’s wickedness—by welcoming the strangers. Urdu Explanation: شام کے وقت دو فرشتے سدوم پہنچے۔ لوط سدوم کے پھاٹک پر بیٹھا تھا انہیں دیکھ کر وہ استقبال کے لیے اٹھا اور زمین تک جھک کر سجدہ کیا۔
Genesis 19:2
Verse: And he said Behold now my lords turn in I pray you into your servant’s house and tarry all night and wash your feet and ye shall rise up early and go on your ways And they said Nay but we will abide in the street all night English Explanation: Lot invites them for protection and rest, knowing the dangers of the city streets at night. The angels initially decline to test his insistence. Urdu Explanation: لوط نے ان سے درخواست کی کہ وہ اس کے گھر چلیں رات آرام کریں اور صبح سویرے اپنے راستے پر چلے جائیں۔ انہوں نے پہلے انکار کیا اور کہا کہ وہ چوک میں رات گزاریں گے۔
Genesis 19:3
Verse: And he pressed upon them greatly and they turned in unto him and entered into his house and he made them a feast and did bake unleavened bread and they did eat English Explanation: Lot’s persistence pays off. He provides a meal, showing he still maintains some of the righteous traditions of his uncle Abraham despite living in a corrupt city. Urdu Explanation: لوط نے بہت اصرار کیا تو وہ اس کے گھر چلے گئے۔ اس نے ان کی ضیافت کی اور بے خمیری روٹیاں پکائیں اور انہوں نے کھانا کھایا۔
Genesis 19:4
Verse: But before they lay down the men of the city even the men of Sodom compassed the house round both old and young all the people from every quarter English Explanation: The extreme depravity of Sodom is revealed. The entire male population, from young to old, surrounds the house, showing a total lack of moral restraint. Urdu Explanation: ان کے سونے سے پہلے شہر کے تمام مردوں نے لوط کے گھر کو گھیر لیا۔ جوان اور بوڑھے ہر طرف سے آ جمع ہوئے تاکہ ان مہمانوں کو نقصان پہنچائیں۔
Genesis 19:5
Verse: And they called unto Lot and said unto him Where are the men which came in to thee this night bring them out unto us that we may know them English Explanation: The mob demands the strangers be brought out for sexual assault (“know them”). This illustrates the peak of the city’s sinfulness and hostility toward outsiders. Urdu Explanation: انہوں نے لوط کو پکارا اور کہا “وہ آدمی کہاں ہیں جو تیرے پاس آئے ہیں؟ انہیں باہر لاؤ تاکہ ہم ان کے ساتھ بدکاری کریں۔”
Genesis 19:6
Verse: And Lot went out at the door unto them and shut the door after him English Explanation: Lot steps outside to protect his guests, putting himself in physical danger to uphold the sacred duty of hospitality. Urdu Explanation: لوط دروازے سے باہر ان کے پاس نکلا اور اپنے پیچھے دروازہ بند کر لیا۔ وہ اپنے مہمانوں کی حفاظت کرنا چاہتا تھا۔
Genesis 19:7
Verse: And said I pray you brethren do not so wickedly English Explanation: Lot pleads with the mob, calling them “brethren” in an attempt to pacify them, and identifies their intentions as purely wicked. Urdu Explanation: لوط نے ان سے التجا کی کہ “اے میرے بھائیو ایسی بدی نہ کرو۔” اس نے انہیں سمجھانے کی کوشش کی۔
Genesis 19:8
Verse: Behold now I have two daughters which have not known man let me I pray you bring them out unto you and do ye to them as is good in your eyes only unto these men do nothing for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof English Explanation: In a desperate and culturally shocking move, Lot offers his daughters to protect his guests. This shows the extreme pressure and the twisted moral dilemma he faced in a lawless society. Urdu Explanation: لوط نے اپنی بیٹیوں کو پیش کرنے کی پیشکش کی تاکہ وہ مہمانوں کو چھوڑ دیں لیکن اس نے یہ سب ان کی حفاظت کے لیے کیا جو اس کی چھت کے نیچے آئے تھے۔
Genesis 19:9
Verse: And they said Stand back And they said again This one fellow came in to sojourn and he will needs be a judge now will we deal worse with thee than with them And they pressed sore upon the man even Lot and came near to break the door English Explanation: The mob rejects Lot’s plea, resenting him for being an outsider who dares to judge them. They turn their violence toward Lot himself. Urdu Explanation: لوگوں نے کہا “پیچھے ہٹ جاؤ!” انہوں نے طعنہ دیا کہ یہ ایک مسافر ہو کر ہم پر منصف بنتا ہے اور وہ لوط پر حملہ آور ہوئے اور دروازہ توڑنے کے قریب پہنچ گئے۔
Genesis 19:10
Verse: But the men put forth their hand and pulled Lot into the house to them and shut to the door English Explanation: The angelic guests intervene, demonstrating their supernatural power by pulling Lot to safety and securing the house. Urdu Explanation: لیکن ان آدمیوں (فرشتوں) نے ہاتھ بڑھا کر لوط کو گھر کے اندر کھینچ لیا اور دروازہ بند کر دیا۔
Genesis 19:11
Verse: And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness both small and great so that they wearied themselves to find the door English Explanation: Divine judgment begins with a physical manifestation: blindness. Despite being blind, the mob’s persistent sin is shown as they continue to grope for the door. Urdu Explanation: انہوں نے ان لوگوں کو جو دروازے پر تھے اندھا کر دیا چھوٹے سے لے کر بڑے تک سب اندھے ہو گئے یہاں تک کہ وہ دروازہ ڈھونڈتے ڈھونڈتے تھک گئے۔
Genesis 19:12
Verse: And the men said unto Lot Hast thou here any besides son in law and thy sons and thy daughters and whatsoever thou hast in the city bring them out of this place English Explanation: The angels warn Lot of the impending destruction and offer him the chance to save his entire family. Mercy is extended to those connected to Lot. Urdu Explanation: فرشتوں نے لوط سے کہا کہ “کیا تیرا یہاں کوئی اور بھی ہے؟ اپنے دامادوں بیٹوں بیٹیوں اور جو کچھ تیرا شہر میں ہے سب کو یہاں سے نکال لے جا۔”
Genesis 19:13
Verse: For we will destroy this place because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it English Explanation: The mandate for destruction is clear. The “cry” of Sodom’s victims has reached God, and the angels are the executors of His divine sentence. Urdu Explanation: “ہم اس جگہ کو تباہ کرنے والے ہیں کیونکہ ان کا شور خداوند کے حضور بہت بڑھ گیا ہے اور خداوند نے ہمیں اسے ہلاک کرنے کے لیے بھیجا ہے۔”
Genesis 19:14
Verse: And Lot went out and spake unto his sons in law which married his daughters and said Up get you out of this place for the LORD will destroy this city But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law English Explanation: Lot tries to warn his family, but his sons-in-law do not take him seriously. Their spiritual blindness mirrors the physical blindness of the mob. Urdu Explanation: لوط باہر گیا اور اپنے دامادوں سے کہا کہ “اٹھو یہاں سے نکلو کیونکہ خداوند اس شہر کو تباہ کرنے والا ہے” لیکن وہ سمجھے کہ وہ مذاق کر رہا ہے۔
Genesis 19:15
Verse: And when the morning arose then the angels hastened Lot saying Arise take thy wife and thy two daughters which are here lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city English Explanation: At dawn, the urgency increases. The angels urge Lot to flee immediately to avoid being caught in the judgment of the city’s iniquity. Urdu Explanation: صبح ہوتے ہی فرشتوں نے لوط کو جلدی کرائی کہ “اٹھ اپنی بیوی اور دونوں بیٹیوں کو لے جا تاکہ تو اس شہر کی بدکاری میں ہلاک نہ ہو جائے۔”
