Genesis 5:20 – 5:24

Verses: And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years and he died. And Enoch lived sixty and five years and begat Methuselah. And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years and begat sons and daughters. And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years. And Enoch walked with God and he was not for God took him.

Genesis 5:25 – 5:27

Verses: And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years and begat Lamech. And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years and begat sons and daughters. And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years and he died.

Genesis 5:28 – 5:32

Verses: And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years and begat a son. And he called his name Noah saying This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed. And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years and begat sons and daughters. And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years and he died. And Noah was five hundred years old and Noah begat Shem Ham and Japheth.

  • English Explanation: Lamech names his son Noah (meaning “Rest” or “Comfort”), prophesying that Noah would bring relief from the toil caused by the curse on the earth.

Chapter 6: The Corruption of Man and the Ark

Genesis 6:1 – 6:4

Verses: And it came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said My spirit shall not always strive with man for that he also is flesh yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days and also after that when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men and they bare children to them the same became mighty men which were of old men of renown.

  • English Explanation: As humanity grew, a spiritual decline occurred. God set a limit of 120 years for man’s lifespan/striving Spirit. The mention of “giants” (Nephilim) indicates a period of unnatural might and spiritual corruption.

Genesis 6:5 – 6:8

Verses: And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth both man and beast and the creeping thing and the fowls of the air for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Genesis 6:13 – 6:16

Verses: And God said unto Noah The end of all flesh is come before me for the earth is filled with violence through them and behold I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood rooms shalt thou make in the ark and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits the breadth of it fifty cubits and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof with lower second and third stories shalt thou make it.

  • English Explanation: God provides specific blueprints for the Ark. It was to be a massive three-story vessel made of gopher wood, sealed with pitch for waterproofing.

Genesis 6:17 – 6:22

Verses: And behold I even I do bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh… But with thee will I establish my covenant… And of every living thing of all flesh two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark… Thus did Noah according to all that God commanded him so did he.

Chapter 7: Entering the Ark

Genesis 7:1 – 7:5

Verses: And the LORD said unto Noah Come thou and all thy house into the ark for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens the male and his female and of beasts that are not clean by two… For yet seven days and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights… And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him.

  • English Explanation: God invites Noah’s family into the Ark, noting Noah’s righteousness. Seven pairs of clean animals were taken for sacrifices and food, while two of unclean animals were preserved.

Genesis 7:6 – 7:7

Verses: And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. And Noah went in and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him into the ark the male and the female as God had commanded Noah.

  • English Explanation: At age 600, Noah enters the Ark. This marks the beginning of the judgment that would reshape the world.
