Judges 21:8

Verse: And they said What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And behold there came none to the camp from Jabesh-gilead to the assembly

  • English Detail: Following the civil war against Benjamin, the Israelites realized they had sworn an oath to punish anyone who didn’t join the assembly at Mizpeh. Upon checking records, they found that no one from the city of Jabesh-gilead had participated.

Judges 21:9

Verse: For the people were numbered and behold there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead there

  • English Detail: A formal census or count was conducted to verify attendance. This confirmed the total absence of the people of Jabesh-gilead, making them liable for the consequences of the oath.

  • Urdu Detail:

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:11

Verse: And this is the thing that ye shall do Ye shall utterly destroy every male and every woman that hath lain by man

  • English Detail: The specific command was to execute all males and any woman who was not a virgin. This was a radical measure to fulfill their vow while looking for a solution for the Benjaminites.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:12

Verse: And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins that had known no man by lying with any male and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh which is in the land of Canaan

  • English Detail: Amidst the destruction, 400 young women were spared. They were taken to the camp at Shiloh, which served as the religious center of Israel at the time.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:13

Verse: And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon and to call peaceably unto them

  • English Detail: The Israelites sought a truce with the surviving 600 men of Benjamin who were hiding at the Rock of Rimmon, offering them a chance to rebuild their tribe.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:14

Verse: And Benjamin came again at that time and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead and yet so they sufficed them not

  • English Detail: The Benjaminites returned, and the 400 women from Jabesh-gilead were given to them. However, there were still 200 men without wives.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:15

Verse: And the people repented them for Benjamin because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel

  • English Detail: The nation felt deep sorrow for the near-extinction of the tribe of Benjamin, recognizing the “breach” or gap left in the unity of the twelve tribes.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:16

Verse: Then the elders of the congregation said How shall we do for wives for them that remain seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

  • English Detail: The leadership faced a legal dilemma: how to provide wives for the remaining 200 men since all Benjaminite women had been killed in the war.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:17

Verse: And they said There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel

  • English Detail: They emphasized that Benjamin’s land and lineage must be preserved so that the number of Israel’s tribes remained intact.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:18

Verse: Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters for the children of Israel have sworn saying Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin

  • English Detail: They were stuck because of a previous oath: they had sworn never to give their own daughters to the Benjaminites in marriage.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:19

Verse: Then they said Behold there is a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Bethel on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem and on the south of Lebonah

  • English Detail: They identified a religious festival in Shiloh as an opportunity. The text gives precise geographical coordinates for the location of this event.

  • Urdu Detail:

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:21

Verse: And see and behold if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances then come ye out of the vineyards and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh and go to the land of Benjamin

  • English Detail: The plan was for the men to kidnap the dancing girls. Since the fathers didn’t “give” them willingly, the oath was technically not broken.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:22

Verse: And it shall be when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain that we will say unto them Be favourable unto them for our sakes because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war for ye did not give unto them at this time that ye should be guilty

  • English Detail: The elders planned to mediate with the families of the women, explaining it was a necessary act for the survival of Israel and that the families were innocent of breaking the oath.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:23

Verse: And the children of Benjamin did so and took them wives according to their number of them that danced whom they caught and they went and returned unto their inheritance and repaired the cities and dwelt in them

  • English Detail: The men of Benjamin carried out the plan, took the wives, rebuilt their destroyed cities, and settled back into their ancestral lands.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:24

Verse: And the children of Israel departed thence at that time every man to his tribe and to his family and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance

  • English Detail: With the Benjamin crisis resolved, the massive assembly of Israel disbanded, and everyone returned to their own tribal territories.

  • Urdu Detail:

Judges 21:25

Verse: In those days there was no king in Israel every man did that which was right in his own eyes

  • English Detail: This famous concluding verse explains the moral and social chaos of the period. Without a central authority or king, individual impulse replaced divine law.

  • Urdu Detail:
