Chapter 1

Verse 2

Verse: Grace unto you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ

  • English Explanation: Paul begins his letter with a dual blessing of grace (God’s unmerited favor) and peace (the inner tranquility resulting from reconciliation with God). This divine peace originates equally from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, establishing their divine unity.

  • Urdu Explanation: پولس اپنے خط کا آغاز فضل (خدا کی بلا کمائی بخشش) اور اطمینان (خدا کے ساتھ ملاپ سے حاصل ہونے والا اندرونی سکون) کی دہری برکت سے کرتا ہے۔ یہ الٰہی اطمینان خدا باپ اور خداوند یسوع مسیح دونوں کی طرف سے یکساں طور پر حاصل ہوتا ہے جو ان کی الٰہی وحدانیت کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Verse 3

Verse: We are bound to thank God always for you brethren as it is meet because that your faith groweth exceedingly and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth

  • English Explanation: Paul expresses a spiritual obligation to thank God for the Thessalonian believers. Their spiritual health is evident through two major signs: their faith is growing dynamically despite trials, and their mutual love (charity) for one another is overflowing.

  • Urdu Explanation: پولس تھسلنیکیوں کے ایمانداروں کے لیے خدا کا شکر ادا کرنا اپنا روحانی فرض سمجھتا ہے۔ ان کی روحانی صحت دو بڑی علامتوں سے ظاہر ہوتی ہے: آزمائشوں کے باوجود ان کا ایمان تیزی سے بڑھ رہا ہے اور ایک دوسرے کے لیے ان کی محبت ابل رہی ہے۔

Verse 4

Verse: So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure

  • English Explanation: The steadfastness of the Thessalonians under intense suffering becomes a point of holy pride for Paul. He boasts to other churches about their endurance (patience) and unbroken loyalty (faith) through ongoing persecution.

  • Urdu Explanation: شدید دکھوں کے باوجود تھسلنیکیوں کی ثابت قدمی پولس کے لیے پاک فخر کا باعث بنتی ہے۔ وہ دوسرے کلیسیاؤں میں ان کے صبر (برداشت) اور غیر متزلزل وفاداری (ایمان) کی تعریف کرتا ہے جو وہ ان ظلم و ستم کے دوران دکھا رہے ہیں۔

Verse 5

Verse: Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God for which ye also suffer

  • English Explanation: Suffering for the Gospel is not a sign of God’s abandonment; rather, it is proof of His righteous judgment. Their endurance through trials refines them, proving their ultimate worthiness to inherit the Kingdom of God.

  • Urdu Explanation: انجیل کی خاطر دکھ اٹھانا خدا کی طرف سے ترک کیے جانے کی نشانی نہیں ہے بلکہ یہ اس کے سچے انصاف کا ثبوت ہے۔ آزمائشوں کے دوران ان کی ثابت قدمی انہیں پاک کرتی ہے اور یہ ثابت کرتی ہے کہ وہ خدا کی بادشاہی کے وارث ہونے کے لائق ہیں۔

Verse 6

Verse: Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you

  • English Explanation: God is fundamentally just. Divine justice ensures a role reversal in the future: those who are currently causing affliction and persecution to God’s people will eventually face affliction from God Himself.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا بنیادی طور پر عادل ہے۔ الٰہی انصاف مستقبل میں حالات کو بدل دے گا: جو لوگ اس وقت خدا کے لوگوں کو دکھ اور تکلیف پہنچا رہے ہیں وہ آخر کار خود خدا کے غضب اور تکلیف کا سامنا کریں گے۔

Verse 7

Verse: And to you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels

  • English Explanation: To the persecuted believers, Paul promises ultimate divine relief (“rest”). This cosmic relief will take place at the Second Coming, when Jesus Christ is visibly revealed descending from heaven accompanied by His powerful angels.

  • Urdu Explanation: مظلوم ایمانداروں سے پولس حتمی الٰہی راحت (“آرام”) کا وعدہ کرتا ہے۔ یہ کائناتی راحت مسیح کی دوسری آمد پر حاصل ہوگی جب خداوند یسوع آسمان سے اپنے زبردست فرشتوں کے ساتھ ظاہر ہوں گے۔

Verse 8

Verse: In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ

  • English Explanation: The revelation of Christ will include terrifying judgment. Appearing in flaming fire, He will execute justice upon two categories of people: those who willfully refuse to know God, and those who actively reject and disobey the Gospel.

  • Urdu Explanation: مسیح کا ظہور ایک ہولناک عدالت کے ساتھ ہوگا۔ شعلہ زن آگ میں ظاہر ہو کر وہ دو قسم کے لوگوں پر انصاف نافذ کریں گے: وہ جو جان بوجھ کر خدا کو جاننے سے انکار کرتے ہیں اور وہ جو انجیل کو قبول کرنے اور اس کی فرمانبرداری کرنے سے انکار کرتے ہیں۔

Verse 9

Verse: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power

  • English Explanation: The nature of eternal punishment is defined here as “everlasting destruction.” This does not mean annihilation, but eternal separation from the life-giving presence of the Lord and the majestic display of His power.

  • Urdu Explanation: ابدی سزا کی نوعیت کو یہاں “ابدی ہلاکت” کے طور پر بیان کیا گیا ہے۔ اس کا مطلب فنا ہو جانا نہیں ہے بلکہ خداوند کے زندگی بخش حضور اور اس کی قدرت کے جلالی ظہور سے ہمیشہ کے لیے جدا ہو جانا ہے۔

Verse 10

Verse: When he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all them that believe because our testimony among you was believed in that day

  • English Explanation: On that fateful day, while the wicked face judgment, Christ will be magnified in His believers. The ultimate vindication of faith will cause wonder and admiration among all who accepted the apostolic testimony.

  • Urdu Explanation: اس خوفناک دن جہاں شریر عدالت کا سامنا کریں گے وہیں مسیح اپنے مقدسین میں جلال پائیں گے۔ ایمان کی یہ حتمی فتح ان تمام لوگوں میں حیرت اور ستائش کا باعث بنے گی جنہوں نے رسولوں کی گواہی پر یقین کیا۔

Verse 11

Verse: Wherefore also we pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness and the work of faith with power

  • English Explanation: Knowing the ultimate destiny of believers, Paul prays continuously for the Thessalonians. He asks that God enables them to live up to their divine calling and that He powerfully fulfills every good, faith-driven purpose in their lives.

  • Urdu Explanation: ایمانداروں کے حتمی انجام کو جانتے ہوئے پولس مسلسل تھسلنیکیوں کے لیے دعا کرتا ہے۔ وہ التجا کرتا ہے کہ خدا انہیں اپنے الٰہی بلاوے کے لائق زندگی گزارنے کی توفیق دے اور اپنی قدرت سے ان کی زندگیوں میں ایمان کے ہر اچھے مقصد کو پورا کرے۔

Verse 12

Verse: That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you and ye in him according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ

  • English Explanation: The ultimate goal of Christian endurance is mutual glorification. By living faithfully through grace, believers bring glory to the name of Jesus, and in return, they are elevated and glorified in Him.

  • Urdu Explanation: مسیحی برداشت کا حتمی مقصد باہمی جلال ہے۔ فضل کے وسیلے سے وفاداری کی زندگی گزار کر ایماندار یسوع کے نام کو جلال دیتے ہیں اور بدلے میں وہ خود اس میں جلال پاتے ہیں۔

Chapter 2

Verse 1

Verse: Now we beseech you brethren by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and by our gathering together unto him

  • English Explanation: Paul transitions to a critical doctrinal correction. He appeals to the believers based on two massive future events: the literal Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the rapture/gathering of the global Church to meet Him.

  • Urdu Explanation: پولس اب ایک اہم نظریاتی اصلاح کی طرف بڑھتا ہے۔ وہ ایمانداروں سے دو بڑے مستقبل کے واقعات کے حوالے سے التجا کرتا ہے: خداوند یسوع مسیح کی دوسری آمد اور اس سے ملنے کے لیے عالمگیر کلیسیا کا اکٹھا ہونا (اٹھایا جانا)۔

Verse 2

Verse: That ye be not soon shaken in mind or be troubled neither by spirit nor by word nor by letter as from us as that the day of Christ is at hand

  • English Explanation: False teachers had caused panic in Thessalonica by claiming that the final “Day of the Lord” had already arrived. Paul urges them not to be mentally destabilized or alarmed by prophetic claims, spoken rumors, or forged letters claiming to be from him.

  • Urdu Explanation: جھوٹے استادوں نے تھسلنیکے میں یہ دعویٰ کر کے خوف پھیلا دیا تھا کہ “خداوند کا دن” آ چکا ہے۔ پولس ان پر زور دیتا ہے کہ وہ کسی بھی مبینہ نبوت زبانی افواہ یا اپنے نام سے منسوب کسی جعلی خط سے ذہنی طور پر پریشان یا خوفزدہ نہ ہوں۔

Verse 3

Verse: Let no man deceive you by any means for that day shall not come except there come a falling away first and that man of sin be revealed the son of perdition

  • English Explanation: Paul states categorically that the Day of Christ cannot happen until two prophetic signs occur: a massive global apostasy (falling away from the faith) and the public unmasking of the ultimate anti-Christian ruler, the “man of sin” (Antichrist).

  • Urdu Explanation: پولس واضع طور پر کہتا ہے کہ مسیح کا دن اس وقت تک نہیں آ سکتا جب تک دو نبوتی نشانیاں پوری نہ ہوں: پہلا ایک بڑا عالمی ارتداد (ایمان سے برگشتگی) اور دوسرا اس گناہ کے انسان (دجال) یعنی ہلاکت کے فرزند کا ظاہر ہونا۔

Verse 4

Verse: Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God or that is worshipped so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God shewing himself that he is God

  • English Explanation: This coming adversary will display ultimate arrogance. He will oppose every form of religion and demand exclusive worship, going so far as to enthrone himself within the literal Temple of God, blasphemously proclaiming himself to be deity.

  • Urdu Explanation: یہ آنے والا مخالف انتہائی تکبر کا مظاہرہ کرے گا۔ وہ ہر قسم کے مذہب کی مخالفت کرے گا اور اپنی ہی پرستش کا مطالبہ کرے گا یہاں تک کہ وہ خدا کی ہیکل میں بیٹھ کر کفر بکتے ہوئے خود کے خدا ہونے کا دعویٰ کرے گا۔

Verse 5

Verse: Remember ye not that when I was yet with you I told you these things

  • English Explanation: Paul gently reproves the believers for forgetting basic eschatological discipleship. He reminds them that this timeline of end-time events was something he had already thoroughly taught them during his brief physical ministry among them.

  • Urdu Explanation: پولس ایمانداروں کو بنیادی آخری ایام کی تعلیمات کو بھول جانے پر نرمی سے ملامت کرتا ہے۔ وہ انہیں یاد دلاتا ہے کہ آخری ایام کے واقعات کا یہ نظام الاوقات وہ ہے جو وہ ان کے درمیان قیام کے دوران پہلے ہی تفصیل سے سکھا چکا تھا۔

Verse 6

Verse: And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time

  • English Explanation: The Antichrist cannot appear at his own whim. There is a specific restraining force or entity currently keeping his global rebellion in check, ensuring that he is only unveiled at the precise, God-ordained moment.

  • Urdu Explanation: دجال اپنی مرضی سے ظاہر نہیں ہو سکتا۔ اس وقت ایک مخصوص روکنے والی طاقت یا ہستی موجود ہے جو اس کی عالمی بغاوت کو قابو میں رکھے ہوئے ہے تاکہ وہ صرف خدا کے مقرر کردہ وقت پر ہی ظاہر ہو سکے۔

Verse 7

Verse: For the mystery of iniquity doth already work only he who now letteth will let until he be taken out of the way

  • English Explanation: While the ultimate lawless figure is hidden, the spiritual undercurrent of lawlessness (“mystery of iniquity”) is already secretly active in the world. However, this dark power remains restricted until the Restrainer steps aside.

  • Urdu Explanation: اگرچہ وہ بے دینی کا مجسمہ ابھی چھپا ہوا ہے لیکن بے دینی کی پوشیدہ طاقت (“بے دینی کا بھید”) دنیا میں پہلے ہی سے کام کر رہی ہے۔ تاہم یہ تاریک طاقت اس وقت تک محدود رہے گی جب تک روکنے والا راستے سے نہ ہٹ جائے۔

Verse 8

Verse: And then shall that Wicked be revealed whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming

  • English Explanation: Once the restraint is lifted, the “Wicked” one will step into the open. However, his reign will be short-lived; the Lord Jesus will effortlessly annihilate him simply by the breath of His mouth and the blinding glory of His physical return.

  • Urdu Explanation: جیسے ہی وہ روک ہٹے گی وہ “بے دین” کھلم کھلا ظاہر ہو جائے گا۔ تاہم اس کی حکومت قلیل مدتی ہوگی؛ خداوند یسوع اپنے منہ کی پھونک اور اپنی آمد کی تجلی کے جلال سے اسے آسانی سے نیست و نابود کر دیں گے۔

Verse 9

Verse: Even him whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders

  • English Explanation: The arrival of the Antichrist will be fueled directly by Satanic power. He will deceive the masses by performing supernatural feats, dynamic signs, and counterfeit miracles designed to validate his false claims.

  • Urdu Explanation: دجال کی آمد براہ راست شیطانی طاقت کے ماتحت ہوگی۔ وہ مافوق الفطرت کمالات نشانات اور جھوٹے معجزات دکھا کر عوام کو گمراہ کرے گا جو اس کے جھوٹے دعووں کی تصدیق کے لیے ہوں گے۔

Verse 10

Verse: And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish because they received not the love of the truth that they might be saved

  • English Explanation: The Antichrist’s deception will completely capture those who are spiritually lost. Their vulnerability to this deceit stems from their deliberate choice to reject the truth of the Gospel, refusing the very love that could save them.

  • Urdu Explanation: دجال کا فریب ان لوگوں کو مکمل طور پر اپنی گرفت میں لے لے گا جو ہلاک ہو رہے ہیں۔ اس فریب کا شکار وہ اس لیے ہوں گے کیونکہ انہوں نے انجیل کی سچائی کو قبول کرنے سے جان بوجھ کر انکار کیا اور اس محبت کو رد کر دیا جو انہیں نجات دلا سکتی تھی۔

Verse 11

Verse: And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion that they should believe a lie

  • English Explanation: Because humanity deliberately chooses falsehood over divine truth, God hands them over to judicial blindness. He sends a powerful delusion as a form of judgment, allowing them to fully commit to the ultimate lie of the Antichrist.

  • Urdu Explanation: چونکہ انسان جان بوجھ کر الٰہی سچائی کے مقابلے میں جھوٹ کا انتخاب کرتا ہے اس لیے خدا انہیں ان کے اندھے پن کے حوالے کر دیتا ہے۔ وہ عدالت کے طور پر ان پر ایک بڑی گمراہی بھیجتا ہے تاکہ وہ دجال کے اس حتمی جھوٹ پر پورا یقین کر لیں۔

Verse 12

Verse: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness

  • English Explanation: The ultimate outcome of rejecting God’s truth is condemnation. This judgment is entirely justified because these individuals did not merely doubt; they actively found moral delight and pleasure in wickedness.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا کی سچائی کو مسترد کرنے کا حتمی نتیجہ سزا ہے۔ یہ عدالت بالکل برحق ہے کیونکہ ان افراد نے نہ صرف شک کیا بلکہ انہوں نے بدکاری اور گناہ کی زندگی میں دلی خوشی پائی۔

Verse 13

Verse: But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you brethren beloved of the Lord because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth

  • English Explanation: In sharp contrast to those facing judgment, Paul celebrates the divine security of the Thessalonians. Chosen by God from the beginning, their salvation is actualized through the purifying work of the Holy Spirit and their genuine faith in biblical truth.

  • Urdu Explanation: عدالت کا سامنا کرنے والوں کے بالکل برعکس پولس تھسلنیکیوں کی الٰہی حفاظت پر خوشی مناتا ہے۔ خدا نے انہیں شروع ہی سے چن لیا تھا اور ان کی نجات روح القدس کے پاک کرنے والے کام اور سچائی پر ان کے سچے ایمان کے ذریعے ممکن ہوئی ہے۔

Verse 14

Verse: Whereunto he called you by our gospel to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ

  • English Explanation: God initiated this salvation by calling them through the preaching of the Gospel. The ultimate destination of this heavenly calling is not just escape from judgment, but sharing intimately in the eternal glory of Jesus Christ.

  • Urdu Explanation: خدا نے انجیل کی منادی کے ذریعے انہیں بلا کر اس نجات کا آغاز کیا۔ اس آسمانی بلاوے کا حتمی مقصد صرف عدالت سے بچنا نہیں ہے بلکہ خداوند یسوع مسیح کے ابدی جلال میں شریک ہونا ہے۔

Verse 15

Verse: Therefore brethren stand fast and hold the traditions which ye have been taught whether by word or our epistle

  • English Explanation: In light of the prophetic realities and their secure salvation, Paul delivers a practical command. The believers must remain unshakeable (“stand fast”) and anchor themselves strictly to apostolic doctrines (“traditions”) passed down via spoken word or written letter.

  • Urdu Explanation: ان نبوتی حقائق اور اپنی محفوظ نجات کی روشنی میں پولس ایک عملی حکم دیتا ہے۔ ایمانداروں کو غیر متزلزل رہنا چاہیے (“مستحکم کھڑے رہنا”) اور اپنے آپ کو سختی سے ان رسولی تعلیمات (“روایات”) سے جوڑے رکھنا چاہیے جو انہیں زبانی کلام یا خط کے ذریعے سکھائی گئی تھیں۔
