1 John 1:3
Verse: That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you that ye also may have fellowship with us and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ

1 John 1:4
Verse: And these things write we unto you that your joy may be full

1 John 1:5
Verse: This then is the message which we have heard of him and declare unto you that God is light and in him is no darkness at all
English Explanation: This verse defines the absolute moral purity and truth of God. Light represents holiness, truth, and righteousness, while darkness represents sin, ignorance, and evil. To say God is light means He is completely holy, without a single trace of sin or deception.

Verse: If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness we lie and do not the truth

1 John 1:7
Verse: But if we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin
English Explanation: Walking in the light means living in obedience, transparency, and truth before God. When believers do this, it enables authentic community with one another, and the sacrificial blood of Jesus continually purifies them from the guilt and stain of daily sins.

1 John 1:8
Verse: If we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us

1 John 1:9
Verse: If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
English Explanation: One of the most comforting promises in Scripture. When we openly acknowledge and repent of our sins, God guarantees forgiveness. He is “faithful” to His promises and “just” because Christ has already paid the penalty for those sins, completely washing away our unrighteousness.

1 John 1:10
Verse: If we say that we have not sinned we make him a liar and his word is not in us
English Explanation: God’s Word declares that all human beings have sinned. Therefore, if anyone claims they have never sinned, they are directly contradicting God’s truth and essentially calling God a liar, proving that His Word has taken no root in their heart.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): خدا کا کلام صاف فرماتا ہے کہ تمام انسانوں نے گناہ کیا ہے۔ اس لیے، اگر کوئی کہتا ہے کہ اس نے گناہ نہیں کیا، تو وہ خدا کے کلام کو جھٹلاتا ہے اور خدا کو جھوٹا ٹھہراتا ہے، جس سے ظاہر ہوتا ہے کہ خدا کا کلام اس کے دل میں موجود ہی نہیں۔
Chapter 2
1 John 2:1
Verse: My little children these things write I unto you that ye sin not And if any man sin we have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ the righteous
English Explanation: John uses an affectionate term (“little children”) to express his pastoral care. His goal is to encourage believers to strive for a sinless life. However, knowing human weakness, he reassures them that if they do fail, Jesus Christ—the perfectly righteous one—acts as our defense attorney (Advocate) before God the Father.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): یوھنا محبت سے اپنے ایمان داروں کو “فرزندوں” کہہ کر مخاطب کرتے ہیں۔ ان کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ ہم گناہ سے دور رہیں۔ لیکن انسانی کمزوری کو جانتے ہوئے وہ تسلی دیتے ہیں کہ اگر ہم سے کوئی گناہ ہو جائے، تو باپ کے پاس ہمارا ایک وکیل موجود ہے، یعنی یسوع مسیح جو سراپا راستباز ہے۔
1 John 2:2
Verse: And he is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world
English Explanation: “Propitiation” means the turning away of wrath through a sacrificial offering. Jesus satisfied God’s righteous judgment against sin. This atomic work of salvation is not exclusive; it is sufficient and available to every single person in the entire world who accepts Him.

1 John 2:3
Verse: And hereby we do know that we know him if we keep his commandments
English Explanation: Assurance of salvation is tied to obedience. We do not earn salvation by keeping commandments, but obeying God’s directives is the undeniable outward proof that we truly know and love Him in an intimate relationship.

1 John 2:4
Verse: He that saith I know him and keepeth not his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him
English Explanation: John strictly draws the line against intellectualism without obedience. Anyone who claims to have a spiritual relationship with God but flagrantly disregards His moral commandments is living a lie. True faith demands active compliance with God’s will.
Urdu Explanation (اردو وضاحت): یوھنا یہاں واضح کرتے ہیں کہ خالی باتوں سے ایمان ثابت نہیں ہوتا۔ جو شخص زبان سے تو کہے کہ وہ خدا کو جانتا ہے لیکن اس کے حکموں کی پرواہ نہ کرے، وہ جھوٹا ہے اور اس کے اندر سچائی کا کوئی نام و نشان نہیں۔
1 John 2:5
Verse: But whoso keepeth his word in him verily is the love of God perfected hereby know we that we are in him
English Explanation: When a believer lives in obedience to God’s Word, God’s love achieves its intended goal and matures (“is perfected”) within them. This lifestyle of active obedience serves as a practical assurance that we are securely united with Christ.

1 John 2:6
Verse: He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk even as he walked
English Explanation: To “abide” in Jesus means to live in close communion with Him. John presents Jesus as the ultimate role model. If we claim to belong to Him, our daily walk—our behavior, actions, and attitude—must mirror the earthly life and love of Jesus.

1 John 2:7
Verse: Brethren I write no new commandment unto you but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning

1 John 2:8
Verse: Again a new commandment I write unto you which thing is true in him and in you because the darkness is past and the true light now shineth
English Explanation: Though old in history, the commandment of love is “new” in its quality, depth, and presentation through Jesus. Christ demonstrated love in a revolutionary way. As the spiritual darkness of the world retreats before the rising light of Christ, this new standard of love becomes visible in the lives of believers.

Verse: He that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother is in darkness even until now
English Explanation: Spiritual illumination and hatred cannot coexist. If a person boasts about being spiritually enlightened (“in the light”) but harbors bitterness, malice, or hatred toward a fellow human being, their actions betray them; they are still trapped in spiritual darkness.

1 John 2:10
Verse: He that loveth his brother abideth in the light and there is none occasion of stumbling in him
English Explanation: Loving others is the clear proof of living in God’s light. A life oriented around genuine love is stable; it removes the spiritual blind spots and stumbling blocks that cause people to fall into sin or cause others to stumble in their faith.

1 John 2:11
Verse: But he that hateth his brother is in darkness and walketh in darkness and knoweth not whither he goeth because that darkness hath blinded his eyes
English Explanation: Hatred acts like spiritual blindness. A person fueled by hatred loses their moral orientation, wandering aimlessly through life without knowing where they are heading, because their sin has completely corrupted their spiritual sight.

1 John 2:12
Verse: I write unto you little children because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake

Verse: I write unto you fathers because ye have known him that is from the beginning I write unto you young men because ye have overcome the wicked one I write unto you little children because ye have known the Father

Verse: I have written unto you fathers because ye have known him that is from the beginning I have written unto you young men because ye are strong and the word of God abideth in you and ye have overcome the wicked one
English Explanation: John repeats his encouragement for emphasis. He highlights that the secret to the spiritual strength of the “young men” is that the Word of God lives actively inside them. It is through the power of scripture that they successfully withstand and conquer the devil.

1 John 2:15
Verse: Love not the world neither the things that are in the world If any man love the world the love of the Father is not in him
English Explanation: “The world” refers to the fallen human system that operates independently of God and opposes His values. John warns that a heart consumed by a love for worldly values, prestige, and materialism cannot simultaneously contain a genuine devotion to God the Father. It is an exclusive allegiance.

Verse: For all that is in the world the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world

Verse: These are wells without water clouds that are carried with a tempest to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever

Things driven by worldly lusts promise fulfillment but are empty, like waterless wells or storm-driven clouds providing no life-giving rain. Ultimately, anything detached from God faces fleeting transience, and those who anchor themselves in spiritual emptiness face a destiny of eternal darkness.
